Bontrager Mud X
Desc Tubeless ready knobbly dual compound winter tyre
Costs 24
Pro's This tyre works really well in muddy conditions but as the knobbles aren't too high there is no squirm when riding on hard surfaces and they roll real quick too for a knobbly. They also give good grip in dry conditions so a good all round tyre.Very light at 500g for a 2".
Con's None
Overall Excellent tyre, I'd recommend it to anyone, just glad I've got 2 on my XtC.

Garin Edge 305 with Heartrate Monitor
Desc GPS based unit for cyclists, complete with heartrate monitor or speed/cadence sensors.
Costs 199
Pro's Where do i start?.. Mobile phone sized GPS unit for your bike. Extra sensitive reciever to keep the signals even under tree cover! Good software for analyzing data!.. clear screen with adjustable contrast. Couple of mounting brackets for stem or handlebar!...
Use the ghost rider function for training to set targets on screen showing you chasing another (ghost) rider and push yourself to the limit!
Con's None yet, honestly! Price?
Overall A quality piece of kit that you don't hear much about... Price may put some people off.
Download your post ride data(if you want to. can be viewed on the unit itself) to your pc and see where your hardwork took you. Good, clear graphs showing a range of data including heartrate, speed, distance, elevation, weather data etc.
Transfer your data to the Motionbased.com website for further analysis and even use the map player function to watch an icon re-trace your route. You can even use a previous(identical) ride's data to track your route and see if you were quicker or slower over it.

Bontrager Revolt Super X, 2.1
Desc Fast rolling, super grippy tyre.
Costs 19.99 ea
Pro's Lightweight, Fast rolling, Slices through mud without clogging, Can be used as tubeless, Great for climbing, Super grippy
Con's Difficult to get on... that's it for now!
Overall A good trail tyre that tracks well! Rolls super fast and when you put the hammer down it reacts immediately! Read a lot of reviews before buying that said they were rubbish..... but the manufacturers have obviously listened to the negatives and improved it because i can't fault it. I bought the 2.1 version which strangely enough is roughly the same width as the xc pro 1.8's???

XTR Brakes and Lever Combo work really, really well.

It HASN'T got Hayes Brakes!! (never again!)

FOX F80 X DISC - 80mm FORKS
Desc 80mm Forks by Fox -
i Copy and pasted the tech stuff! -

Fox's patented Terralogic equipped FX series of forks are the only forks on the market with a terrain sensitive, inertia valve activated, fully automatic lockout. They are rigid when you need them to be – when hammering out of the saddle on smooth terrain – yet they become totally active when the going gets rough. In addition to this, the inertia valve bump threshold can be tuned to suit rider preferences ranging from pebble sensitive to hefty slam indifferent. This unique ability, combined with lightweight and an industry leading stiffness to weight ratio (ensuring accurate tracking and precise handling at all times), lands the FX Terralogic forks right at the front of the pack.
Costs 650 - 700
Pro's Dead simple to set up
Excellent when climbing
no need to reach over and lock out the forks any more
Fully adjustable
Fairly Lightweight at 3.6lbs
Really clever!
Con's Very expensive! - Unless you get them on a built bike!
Other than that time will tell!
Overall Top Fork, Impresive technology, If you can spare the cash go for it!

NoTUbes ZTR Olympic Rims
Desc Stans noTubes ZTR olympic rims built onto Shimano M965 XTR rear hub and Cannondale SI Lefty front hub
Costs 70ea
Pro's 347gr per rim
can inflate a tubeless tyre with a hand pump
easier to fit tyres too than mavic x819
Con's needs to built well and with strong spokes ie Sapim CX-Ray or DT SUperCOmp
Overall I raced these rims at the 2005 Cape Epic. Thats 900km from knysna to Cape Town over some knarly terrain.
These wheels are lighter than Mavic CrossMAx and appear to be stronger due to their good build. Make sure that you get a good wheelsmith to assemble them as I 've seen not too badly built wheels fold in the same race.
I've now done more than 3500km on them and they are still round and true

Highly recommended.
Probably not for the heavier rider

Mammut Helm Cap
Desc Gore Windstopper cap designed to fit under a helmet.
Costs <10
Pro's Thin, wind resistant, fits nicely under your cycle helmet.
Con's Designed for winter sports like snowboarding, so has ear flaps.
Overall I bought mine in France in January and wore it every ride (on & off road) through to spring. I like the ear flaps in the real cold weather - problem on road being reduced hearing capabilities! Cost 12 Euros from "Aux Vieux Campeur". Not easily available in the UK, so get one if you're in Europe.

Michelin Wild Gripper Tyres
Desc Big 2.1 tyres in a choice of colours with plenty of treads.

Pro's You can get these supposedly good tyres off ebay cheap for a pair.
Con's They are a con!
They're crap. Used them up in Llandegla forest today on a variety of different surfaces from hardpack to muddy to sticky to shaily and i found them useless. unpredictable and they clog up like hell without shedding any mud!!
Overall Rubbish and Heavy
